The steering committee for the Senior Housing Project voted unanimously to go ahead with plans to build such a facility. A favorable response was received from the housing survey that was sent to all 50543 households last year so everyone felt the need for such a project in our community.

The lot for this independent living project is located south of Main Street directly across from the Care Center and McCrary Rost Clinic. Greg and Sue Anderson donated the lot for this purpose. This is an ambitious project and one that is very exciting for our community.

Fairisle Estates, Inc. was formed in 2008 as a non-profit organization and incorporated in the state of Iowa. The purpose of this organization is to provide housing, health, educational, employment, and spiritual needs of senior citizens in the communities in and around Gowrie, Iowa.

Peterson Construction Company of Webster City has been hired to be the general architect and contractor. This will be a two story complex with 20 apartments and garages. A street will come into the property from the east, Glen Street, and another access to the north onto Main Street. The apartments will face south. They will have two bedrooms with some having two baths and some having only one.

The fund-raising campaign will begin in March. Funding will come from a variety of sources. They will be seeking donors and grants. A multitude of volunteers will be needed to accomplish such an endeavor.

The committee, chaired by Sue Anderson, sees the new facility as a way to free up existing homes to young families wishing to move into the community.
